Production of "Rockstar" began in the summer of 2009. During the film's production, Robert De Niro was cast in the lead role, replacing Jack Black who had previously auditioned for the role. The filming was completed by November 2009.Gurrumul Wirrpanda was hired to perform a number of his Indigenous songs, including Buffalo Dreaming Song, Waltjuri Warrakurlanguju and Noongar Dreaming Song. In the following weekend, the film fell to 35th place with weekend gross of $221,447 from 50 cinemas.In other parts of the world, "Rockstar" took in a total of $9.9 million during its opening weekend from 1,570 screens in 24 countries. "Rockstar"'s highest-grossing screening was in Russia where it earned $2.1 million while its lowest-grossing country was Mexico where it earned only $350,000 during its opening weekend from 247 screens. In Australia, Rockstar opened at number one at the box office and grossed A$2. 6 million in its opening weekend. Later in the week, it fell to 6th at the box office. The film's total gross in Australia was A$6.7 million.Also, in United Kingdom, "Rockstar" grossed £1.5 million (total of £10.4 million) which made it the biggest USA film to play at British cinemas since 2008 when $100M comedy "Quantum of Solace" played in 27 cinemas, then finishing at number 4 in UK box office chart with only £3million grossed against a budget of $100million meaning that it lost money for Fox who paid $125million to finance the film plus P&A costs $75m.
